About Caspar Auchterlonie

Caspar has always been in the wine trade since leaving University. He joined via the surefire way of Oddbins and spent 13 years in the independent fine wine retail sector culminating in 3 years as a manager and wine buyer for Le Pon de la Tour, Conran's flagship restaurant, in both the wine merchant and the restaurant.

He has been a journalist since 1998 and is currently the lifestyle and travel editor for Issue One magazine and one of the wine contributors to Imbibe magazine. He regularly judges at the International Wine Challenge and Sommelier Awards and was a panelist at Wine Magazine for 8 years. He consults for restaurants and wine bars, having designed the list for Dion Leadenhall, Saran Rom, Zakudia, Indian Dining Club and Kennington Tandoori. He has worked in placing wineries in the UK including Ampeleia, Yarraman and currently works with Chateau L'Hestrange, Tamboerskloof and Stift Kloster Neuberg. He also works through Particular Wines in catering in conjunction with world famous jazz band 'The All Stars'. He also works in product development with both Paul Greenhalgh and Jamie Walker.

He has been married to Alex for over 11 years but recently lost everyone's favourite Greyhound Herbie. He is a member of the Circle of Wine Writers and is a former Chairman of the Wine and Spirits Trade Club. He was a founding member of the Civil Engineers Wine Club, is current wine speaker for Quaglino's and Wine Wharf as well as doing tastings for both corporate and private clients and through Vinopolis.
