About Charles Metcalfe
Charles Metcalfe’s new book, ‘The Wine & Food Lover’s Guide to Portugal’, was published in October 2007. As ever, it was in cooperation with his wife, Kathryn McWhirter. Past careers as an opera singer, investment analyst, tour guide, security guard and freelance cook provided the perfect preparation for founding Britain’s second consumer wine magazine (Wine International) and the International Wine Challenge.
Having served a 12-year term as drinks expert on Richard & Judy’s ‘This Morning’, he will talk to anybody and everybody about wine, from vast corporations to local wine societies. His palate is much in demand in tasting competitions, and he has judged in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa and Spain as well as being co-Chairman of the International Wine Challenge, the biggest wine competition in the world. He writes sporadically for a number of publications, and occasionally embarrasses his children by popping up on TV programmes as a drinks presenter.
